Typically ranging from 10 to 26 inches in diameter, this drum is played with a wooden stick called a tipper or beater. The bodhrán's distinctive, deep, and resonant sound adds rhythmic drive and texture to folk music ensembles. Players can vary the pitch and tone by applying pressure to the drum's skin with their non-dominant hand while striking with the tipper, allowing for expressive and dynamic performances.
